On the occasion of Earth Day 2024, the Union Theological Seminary hosted "An Inter-Faith Gathering" on Monday, April 22, at its historic Broadway location in New York City. The solemn assembly, beginning at noon, was a testament to the collective spirit of various faiths uniting for the preservation and honor of our planet.

Bishop Raymond Rivera provided expansive and welcoming introductory remarks. Natalia Alvarez de Jesus of the Paace Department shared thoughts on the day, followed by an insightful reflection from Karenna Gore the founder and executive director of the Center for Earth Ethics at Union Theological Seminary.

The New York City Labor Chorus graced the gathering with performances that stirred the collective conscience of those assembled.

As part ot the Interfaith prayers and meditation, David Kalal from Hindus for Human Rights offered a reading of the Shanti Mantra a guide for peace and goodwill:

"May peace reside in the high heavens,

And Quiet grace the vast skies,

May Tranquility blanket the earth.

And the waters be gentle,

May Plants be nurtured

And The Forests offer solace to all souls.

May kind spirits offer serenity

And Every being echo with calm,

Let ancient knowledge spread peace through the lands

And Truth sow harmony far and wide.

May peace infuse all things,

And flow into me as well.

On this Earth Day… May Peace Flow into All of Us."
