On his Fourth Death Anniversary

Date: Wednesday, 11 September 2024, 5 PM
Location: Jawahar Bhavan, New Delhi
Organizer: Satya Dharma Samvad

On the 11th of September 2024, a heartfelt Shraddhanjali Sabha (tribute meeting) was held at Jawahar Bhawan, New Delhi, to honor the fourth death anniversary of Swami Agnivesh, a remarkable saint and social reformer. Organized by Satya Dharma Samvad (SDS), the gathering brought together many who were close to Swami Agnivesh and those inspired by his life's work.

The event was filled with touching personal stories from friends, colleagues, and admirers who shared their experiences with Swami Agnivesh. Speakers recalled his unwavering commitment to social justice, his dedication to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), and his pioneering work with the Bandhua Mukti Morcha (Bonded Labour Liberation Front) to eradicate modern slavery. They remembered his fearless stance against caste discrimination and his advocacy for unconditional humanity, which left a lasting impact on all who encountered him.

A poignant moment during the gathering was when the details of Swami Agnivesh’s passing were shared, revealing that his death was not due to natural causes but resulted from an attack by the very forces he opposed throughout his life. This act of violence, much like the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by those aligned with the RSS, marked Swami Agnivesh’s martyrdom in the struggle against hatred and division.

The speakers emphasized that the most meaningful way to pay tribute to Swami Agnivesh is not simply by offering flowers at his photograph but by taking his legacy forward. True Shradhanjali (tribute) lies in embodying his ideals, fighting against oppression, and continuing his work for justice, equality, and human dignity.

The event concluded with a collective commitment from all present to uphold Swami Agnivesh's vision and principles in their daily lives, ensuring that his spirit continues to inspire and guide future generations.
