Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election marks a profoundly challenging moment for human rights and democracy, both domestically and globally. At Hindus for Human Rights, we are gravely concerned about the impact of this outcome on immigrant rights, reproductive freedoms, and international Peace, as well as the empowerment of far-right movements across communities.
Trump’s alignment with Hindu supremacists and global autocrats amplifies these concerns, especially for Hindu Americans and the South Asian diaspora, who now face heightened threats to their safety and freedoms. We remain steadfast in our commitment to justice, compassion, and human dignity, joining hands with marginalized communities in the U.S. and around the world. |

Celebrating Diwali From Coast to Coast
|
Hindus for Human Rights marked Diwali on both coasts with thoughtful, inclusive celebrations in Oakland and Maryland. At Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Congregation, we joined an interfaith gathering with Sikh Kirtan, children’s performances, and reflections from diasporic youth, ending with a diya lighting led by Reverend Avi Janamanchi. In Oakland, HfHR and Councilmember Janani Ramachandran hosted a “critical celebration” featuring food, dance, and music, emphasizing Diwali’s message of social justice and unity. Both events captured our vision of a progressive Hinduism rooted in community and shared values.
