South Asian Politics with Christophe Jaffrelot

Yesterday evening, we had the privilege of hosting an event that brought together engaged and informed individuals form the HfHR community for an insightful discourse on the nuances of South Asian politics. The gathering was organized around discussions with the Christophe Jaffrelot, a distinguished figure and scholar in the realms of political science, whose expertise lies deeply rooted in the political landscapes of India and Pakistan.

Mr. Jaffrelot, with profound scholarship and analytical prowess, has meticulously charted the terrain of Hindu nationalism and delved into the intricacies of India's caste system for several decades. His affiliations with the Centre for International Studies at Sciences Po Paris and the King's India Institute in London underscore his influential role in shaping contemporary thought on South Asian politics.

The evening was not only an engagement with Mr. Jaffrelot's contributions but also a unique opportunity  for deep engagement with the invited audience. As the attendees savored their dinner, the ambiance (and conversation) was infused with the political energy that Mr. Jaffrelot's informal talk about his work  inspired. His current research pursuits, ranging from the sociology of Indian political personnel to India-Pakistan relations and the political history of Gujarat, were met with keen interest. Furthermore, his critical insights into populist politics, particularly the "Modi phenomenon," resonated with the audience, prompting a dialogue that was imbued with personal experiences above the usual boundaries of scholarly discussion.

It was an evening where academic experience and data met the subtleties and strong forces  of real-world politics.
