Can Hindus Annihilate Caste? |
In honor of Dalit History Month, our April Baithak will center questions of caste annihilation through an Ambedkarite lens.
This discussion will bring together HfHR Advisory Board members Dr. Anand Teltumbde and Dr. Anantanand Rambachan to explore Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s critique of Hinduism as being inextricably tied up with the violence of caste oppression.
Rejecting framings that treat caste as external to Hinduism, our panelists will engage with Ambedkar’s assertion that Hindus must “give a new doctrinal basis to your religion” in order to illuminate what lessons Ambedkar’s critique of Hinduism can offer us in the project of building an anti-caste Hinduism today. |
Learn About Hindu Liberationist Thought at Satsang for Collective Liberation |
Our partner organization, Sadhana, is holding a Satsang for Collective Liberation; an educational initiative to provide Hindus in the diaspora and elsewhere with the tools to critically engage with and reimagine Hindu traditions to resist oppression and promote social justice.
This reading group explores five topics over four months, from histories of resistance to the intersection of religion, politics, and identity.
This course builds a strong, liberationist-centered foundation for those with little or no prior knowledge of Hindu traditional sources, religious studies, South Asian studies, or related subjects. |

Have Your Art Featured in HfHR's 2026 Calendar! |
The calendar reinterprets the Hindu deity-per-month model through the theme "Embodiments of Gender", exploring how divinity, identity, and justice intersect across time and tradition. Hindu mythologies are rich with figures who transcend rigid binaries, embody multiple identities, or challenge societal norms—expressions of gender that defy categorization.
Each month, a deity serves as an anchor for this exploration, illuminating how gender, caste, and communal belonging not only shape the sacred and the social but are also continually resisted, reshaped and reinterpreted – challenging hierarchies and reclaiming space within the spiritual and cultural imagination. We're hosting an open call for artists to submit pieces that examine the fluidity, multiplicity, and self-definition of gender within Hindu narratives, particularly in ways that challenge caste-imposed constrains on identity and purity. Deadline: April 14th, 2025 Artists who are selected will be paid a modest honorarium of $250 if their submission is selected for the 2026 Calendar. |

Dalit History Month Highlight: |
Celebrating Phule Jayanti |
On Jyotiba Phule Jayanti, we celebrate the birth of a radical thinker and anti-caste reformer whose vision for justice reshaped Indian society. Jyotiba did not walk this path alone. Together with Savitribai Phule, his wife and partner in both life and revolution, they challenged Brahminical patriarchy, founded schools for girls and Dalits, and laid the foundations of anti-caste resistance.
Their legacy is not just one of reform—but of radical reimagination. |

| University of Houston professor accused of misrepresenting Hindu religion in class
In the aftermath of a complaint made by a student against a professor at the University of Houston for his comments on Narendra Modi, HfHR stands with UH and protections for academic freedom. Hindu Americans deserve real advocates for their religious freedom, not a weaponized attempt to silence criticism of Indian politicians. |
