HfHR- ANZ: Celebrating Diwali and Diversity at Museum of Contemporary Art Australia

Hindus for Human Rights was invited to the Diwali Celebration Event Hosted by Multicultural NSW. Sangeetha Govindarajan, a HfHR Australia board member represented us at the evening.On 5th November 2024 at the Museum of Contemporary Art,  a vibrant Diwali celebration was organized by Multicultural NSW, bringing together prominent leaders and members of Australia’s multicultural community. Premier Chris Minns delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of Diwali as a cherished festival for over a million Australians, symbolizing light, unity, and cultural diversity.

Minister for Multicultural NSW, Steve Kamper, highlighted the wide-reaching celebration of Diwali within Australia and the diverse ways communities honor this significant festival.A highlight of the event was a 10-second countdown, culminating in the illumination of the Opera House sails in golden light—a visual that has since captivated audiences worldwide, with Premier Minns noting that the Opera House’s golden glow has become one of the most popular posts on the NSW government’s Facebook page, garnering views from millions overseas.

The event was sponsored by SBS, with a dynamic MC from SBS Radio who set the tone by delivering an Acknowledgement of Country in Punjabi, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the evening. This celebration of Diwali at such an iconic location underscored NSW's commitment to cultural diversity, inclusion, and the global resonance of Australia’s multicultural identity.
