Join Us for a Hindus for Human Rights Chapter Meeting Near You This Month! |
2024 was a huge year of growth for Hindus for Human Rights, from establishing our membership program to hosting frequent meet-ups for our progressive community. We had such a great time connecting and building our local chapters, and we're looking forward to amplifying that energy even more in 2025!
As we enter the new Trump administration, we want to continue strategizing, organizing, and building a progressive community here across the United States. Throughout the month of January, we will be hosting meet-ups in several cities, and we hope you'll join us. Check out our upcoming events below to see if there's an event happening near you! We look forward to seeing you as we build a vibrant political and social base! |

Call Upon President Biden to Pardon Ravi Ragbir! |
Ravi Ragbir is a 60-year-old husband, father, and nationally recognized leader in the immigrant rights movement.
During the Trump administration, Ravi’s outspoken advocacy for immigrant rights made him a target. In January 2018, ICE officials in New York arrested Ravi and another leader of the New Sanctuary Coalition for deportation. These actions came during a period when many prominent immigrant rights activists were suddenly being targeted by federal immigration officials. Community allies—including 31 members of Congress and more than 1,800 community organizations and individuals—spoke out against ICE’s targeting of Ravi.
A pardon is the only real and permanent protection from deportation under the incoming second Trump administration. We are urging President Biden to grant Ravi's pardon before he leaves office.
We humbly ask that you please take a few moments to sign and circulate the petition supporting Ravi Ragbir's pardon. We only have until January 20th to urge President Biden for a pardon before Trump's administration deports Ragbir. |

This Consultation will provide crucial resources and networking opportunities to faith communities, including Know Your Rights Training, legal protections, and spiritual/theological resources. Working together, attendees will share and learn about what resources exist in the event of deportations and emergency needs. |

Southern Poverty Law Center additionally interviewed Pranay Somayajula, our Director of Organizing and Advocacy, in tandem with Safa Ahmed, Associate Director of Media and Communications at Indian American Muslim Council, about Hindu supremacists overlap with white supremacist power structures, how these groups are increasingly aligned with the U.S. political hard right, including SPLC-designated anti-Muslim groups and what can be done to challenge this ideology. |

| We are disappointed by the racist backlash against celebrating the creation of an Indian American coalition. It's important for all people of all walks of life to be represented in government, and this coalition is a step towards positive change. |

| In a horrifying move for non-profits, the House of Representatives recently passed a bill that would allow the President to strip the tax-exempt status of any non-profit deemed to support 'terrorism'. In an era of the new Trump administration and anti-Palestinian rhetoric, this places non-profits speaking out against the genocide in Gaza at risk for simply speaking up in the name of human rights. |

Chandrakar's body was found last week in a septic tank in a compound owned by a contractor he had implicated in a story about corruption in Chhattisgarh state. |
