Violence Against Hindu Temples and Businesses in the Sindh, Pakistan

--A Statement of concern by Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), U.S.A.

We at Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), USA are saddened to hear of the mob attacks against Hindu temples and properties in the Sindh, following accusations of blasphemy against the Principal of a private school. Regardless of the merits of that accusation, which is for the authorities to investigate in a transparent manner, there is simply no justification for mob attacks upon an entire community because of their religious identity. We stand in solidarity with our fellow Hindus in the Sindh in their hour of need and we urge the authorities to ensure that peace and safety of the community is restored at the earliest and those guilty of violence are punished.

As a group that stands for the human rights of all communities in India, U.S. and beyond, we are heartened to note from media reports that the immediate actions and statements from the police, local authorities, and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan have sought to defuse tensions and that the local religious communities have also sought to reassure the Hindu community.

Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) is a U.S. wide advocacy group that is committed to the ideals of multi-religious pluralism both in the United States and India. We advocate for shanti (peace), nyaya (justice) and the manavatha (human rights) of all communities in India and in the world, from a Hindu perspective. Our Vision is lokasangraha (universal common good) - a world where there is peace among all people, and our planet is honored and protected.
