Today sees the start of the auspicious period we Hindus call Navratri: nine nights devoted to Mother Durga in nine forms, with intense prayer for the victory over evil in our world. This year, the start of Navratri coincides with the start of the Jewish New Year holiday known as Rosh Hashana. Today begins the ten holy days of penitence for our Jewish brothers and sisters, culminating in Yom Kippur on October 8th.
We wish you all Shubh Navratri (Happy Navratri) and Shana Tova (Happy Rosh Hashana) and dedicate our prayers today to the people of Kashmir and Palestine, both peoples who are under occupation and denied their freedom.
