NYU CRACS Co-Lab presents the NYC premiere of Prisoner No. 626710 is Present, a compelling documentary followed by a discussion with journalist Azad Essa. The film explores the arrest and imprisonment of Umar Khalid, a student leader and activist, under the draconian UAPA law. It reconstructs how Khalid was framed through found footage and media analysis, shedding light on his ongoing struggle for justice.

  • Language: Hindi and English, with English subtitles

About the Filmmaker and Moderator:

  • Lalit Vachani is a documentary filmmaker and scholar whose work often critiques Hindu nationalism and explores Indian sociopolitical issues.

  • Azad Essa is a senior reporter for Middle East Eye and author of Hostile Homelands: The New Alliance Between India and Israel.
