April's here -- and so is Dalit History Month! As a Hindu organization firmly opposed to caste, we celebrate April as a time for reflecting on the legacies of resilience and resistance that Dalit and Adivasi communities have paved over the centuries. All month long, we'll be uplifting Dalit stories, histories, and experiences -- from cuisine to art and music to political movements.

Savera Coalition Helps Defeat Hindutva Effort Against Ethnic Studies in Fremont |
The Savera: United Against Supremacy Coalition is proud to celebrate a major victory for inclusive education and multiracial solidarity following the Fremont Unified School District Board’s unanimous vote Wednesday night to uphold and continue its Ethnic Studies curriculum.
This decision comes after a concerted effort by members of the Savera coalition — including the Ambedkar King Study Circle (AKSC), Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) and the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) — who showed up in force to testify in support of the curriculum. Their presence was a powerful counter to recent attempts by Hindu supremacist and Zionist groups to undermine ethnic studies in the district. |
Our Statement on the Arbitrary Detention of Mahrang Baloch and Members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee |
Hindus for Human Rights calls on Pakistani authorities to immediately release Baloch human rights activists and members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Zehri, and Sammi Deen Baloch.
We also echo the BYC and other Baloch human rights defenders’ calls to respect the basic human rights of the Baloch people, including but not limited to the freedom of assembly, and to give the people of Balochistan answers about their many loved ones who have been forcibly disappeared over the years. |

Have Your Art Featured in HfHR's 2026 Calendar! |
The calendar reinterprets the Hindu deity-per-month model through the theme "Embodiments of Gender", exploring how divinity, identity, and justice intersect across time and tradition. Hindu mythologies are rich with figures who transcend rigid binaries, embody multiple identities, or challenge societal norms—expressions of gender that defy categorization.
Each month, a deity serves as an anchor for this exploration, illuminating how gender, caste, and communal belonging not only shape the sacred and the social but are also continually resisted, reshaped and reinterpreted – challenging hierarchies and reclaiming space within the spiritual and cultural imagination. We're hosting an open call for artists to submit pieces that examine the fluidity, multiplicity, and self-definition of gender within Hindu narratives, particularly in ways that challenge caste-imposed constrains on identity and purity. Deadline: April 14th, 2025 Artists who are selected will be paid a modest honorarium of $250 if their submission is selected for the 2026 Calendar. |

How Can We Use Our Hindu Values to Stand With the Transgender Community? |
As attacks against the transgender community ramp up worldwide, particularly in the United States under the Trump administration, it's imperative to remember: Trans lives have always existed. And they're not going anywhere.
From hijras to two-spirits, gender-fluid identities have long been a part of cultures around the world.
Even in the face of increased targeted discrimination and violence, we must not waver in our support of our trans brothers and sisters. In fact, we can use our unique perspective as Hindus to further advocate for trans rights.
Check out our newest blog post for a Hindu and human rights perspective to being an ally to the transgender community. |

Comedian Kunal Kamra is currently being attacked by the Hindutva right-wing for his satirical song which took aim at Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This reaction, particularly by Shiv Sena vandals, is yet another symptom of Modi's authoritarian rule. | |

| Hindu advocacy body slams targeting of academics over pro-Palestine stance
We strongly condemn the recent targeting of international academics, researchers, and graduate students in the United States for expressing solidarity with Palestine. “This is not just about Palestine—it is a calculated effort to see how far the state can go in criminalizing political speech, judicial advocacy, and any form of resistance against power,” says Pranay Somayajula, our Director of Organizing and Advocacy.
