Help HfHR Share Our Immigrant Justice Guide With Mandirs In Your Community! |
Across the country, immigrant communities are facing increasing fear, uncertainty, and hostility as the U.S. government pursues a cruel and inhumane anti-immigrant crackdown. As Hindus, it's within our teachings to show up for those in times of crises; practicing Atithi Devo Bhava, "be one for whom the stranger is God". That's why we're launching this campaign, calling on Hindu mandirs across the country to stand with immigrants and take meaningful steps to keep their mandir congregations and communities safe. HfHR Calls on Hanuman Temple of Greater Chicago to Cancel Event with Sadhvi Ritambhara |
As Hindus deeply committed to justice, nonviolence, and the dignity of all people, we are alarmed by the Hanuman Temple of Greater Chicago’s decision to host Sadhvi Rithambara, a figure with a long record of hate speech and communal incitement, to give a spiritual talk to temple devotees.
While Sadhvi Rithambara is regarded in some circles as a spiritual teacher, she is widely known for spreading inflammatory and dangerous rhetoric as a leader in India’s Hindu supremacist movement. This goes beyond basic rhetoric— her language catalyzes tangible instances of division, fear, and communal violence. |

Celebrating National Transgender Day in India |
On April 15, 2014, the Supreme Court of India delivered a historic judgment: NALSA v. Union of India. For the first time in Indian legal history, transgender people were officially recognized as the “third gender,” and the court affirmed their fundamental rights to equality, dignity, and freedom of self-identification. It was a seismic moment — a legal recognition of what the transgender community had always known: their humanity is not up for debate.
Every year since, April 15th is commemorated as National Transgenders Day — a day to celebrate hard-won victories and to reflect on the road ahead.
Watch our new video marking this important moment. |

Building Communal Harmony: |
A Visit from Shri Balak Nath Maharaj to Sabka Ghar
|
At a time when efforts at communal harmony are too often reduced to symbolic gestures or one-time events, our partners at Khudai Khidmatgar remind us that true peacebuilding is a sustained, lived practice. In his reflection, our Advisory Board Member Faisal Khan shares a moving account of a visit by Shri Balak Nath Maharaj, a Sant of the Nath Sampradaya and Mahant of the Gorakhnath Math in Himachal Pradesh, to Sabka Ghar—a shared space dedicated to unity, dialogue, and fellowship. The encounter—marked by open conversation, mutual respect, and shared tea—challenges the growing climate of fear and division in India, while affirming the deep power of sitting together, breaking bread, and speaking across difference with honesty and love. |
