I refuse to Be, by Parinitha Shetty
First published in The Leaflet, Dec 14, 2019
I refuse to be the Hindu you want to shape me into.
I refuse to be the Hindu vote which will sustain the insane authority of your power.
I refuse to be the saffron of your Hindu flag that you bear like a sword ready to kill.
I refuse to be the Hindu for whom Rama can only be worshipped in the temple you will build after reducing a mosque to rubble.
I refuse the citizenship of your Hindu Nation in which Muslims will not be my equals as fellow citizens.
I refuse to be a Hindu who does not recognize that dead soldiers are the price we pay
For dividing ourselves as Hindus from those who are our own.
I refuse to be a Hindu who is made to recognize herself in the images of inhuman monsters you hold before me and which you claim are my reflections in a mirror.
I refuse to allow you to crush the many splendoured , many hued, glorious, joyous, infinitely spiritual, creatively mutating and deeply compassionate possibilities of being a Hindu,
into the slogan of hate
into the rhetoric of fear
into the prison of bigotry
into the law of the tyrant
into a fragmented nation.
I refuse to be the Hindu you want me to be
And I will defy every effort of yours to dehumanize me
And shape me into that monstrous creature you call by the name Hindu.
Re-Claiming Saffron, by J
Shared on Facebook, Dec 17, 2019
Next time anyone wants to protest against CAB they should wear Saffron. Yes. Wear saffron - Kurta, Shirt, t-shirt, saree, suit whatever...
If you are a Hindu and are against CAB then express it wearing Saffron. Because it important to mark yourself as a Hindu who is against the idea of excluding Muslims or anyone from the idea of India.
Let there be a sea of orange protesting against ‘them’.
If the police has to take action let them arrest thousands of people wearing saffron. ( At least it will give them confidence to take action against people wearing saffron.)
I believe their idea of Hindu Rashtra is best rejected wearing Saffron
And don’t stop there.
Start wearing Saffron more. Because it goes beyond the idea of this protest.
I am a Hindu. And I believe my idea of Hinduism is truer and higher than the one the bhakts are brandishing around. My Hindu values makes me tolerant and accepting.
But we have been made to feel that liberal Hindus are not the real deal. The extremist bhakts are the ones here to save Hindu religion
They wear saffron and intimidate others.
Their Saffron excludes. Their Saffron is fickle.
But why have we allowed them to run away with saffron and paint it black ? .
It’s also time to RECLAIM SAFFRON.
By wearing saffron and standing hand in hand with our brothers from all faiths let US shape what saffron represents.
Saffron is also one third of my flag.
It is not their property
My saffron will stand with others.
My saffron will stand up for others.
My Saffron will sing ‘Vaishnav Jan’.
Next time debate with the bhakt while wearing saffron.
Let Ravish Kumar present his shows wearing Saffron.
Let Kanhaiya kumar give speeches wearing Saffron.
It’s time to reclaim the true meaning of Saffron from them
It’s time to re-claim the idea of our religion from them.
It’s time to re-claim our India from them.
