Hum Bharat Ke Log (HBKL) [We The People] calls for a boycott of NPR

—by Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR)

HfHR supports HBKL’s call for a national boycott of the NPR (National Population Register) as the only effective way to stop the discriminatory and unconstitutional CAA/NRC.

As we have been saying in our presentations and briefings, the call for withdrawal of the CAA in of itself is not enough, as the government has been playing up the façade of humanitarian intent of the CAA in its massive P.R. campaigns. We agree with HBKL that the only true power that people have at this point to expose the false narratives and contradictions by the Modi/Shah government is to take a principled stand against the National Population Register, while at the same time participating in their national duty of participating in the census.

Among the participants in this historic call for national boycott of the NPR from the Gandhi Smriti in Delhi were Rajamohan Gandhi, our Advisory Board Member; Teesta Setalvad of Sabrang, who has been working tirelessly for the last four years with the people of Assam in navigating the NRC process; and our own Board Member Giri.

It is now for us in the diaspora to do everything in our power to support the people’s call in India and to educate the American public and our lawmakers about the next phase of the struggle to take back secular India.
